Late Night Poetry #14: Into The Light

By Bryan Minear, Under an Endless Sea.

Step into the light,
let the power rise inside
I can’t be what you need,
so take what’s yours instead.

You knew it was coming,
this hour of need;
the world is crying,
see them all bleed,
oh, I’m grieving;
I’m trying to change,
the world has darkened;
no longer just strange.

Step into the light,
let the power shine through,
if I can’t save you,
do what’s right instead.

It’s all going to hell,
this burning dying world;
only if we change it all,
rise up, rise up, swell
like a blue wave of hope
dancing from above;
untangle the rope,
and sing the song of love.

    Love the imagery! I can almost feel the sizzle of the light as it rises and becomes a power from within.

    The rhythm of these words is very soothing. I’m curious—is the light God? I hope we will see a change soon.

      If you want it to be, the great thing about poetry is that you can interpret it how you want to! But generally speaking, personally I’m not religious. I feel like ‘light’ to me is more about a force of good.

        Yes, me too. Love, light, laughter, beauty, and music are kind of my idea of god.

    The world is crying out for more people who want positive change to benefit others, not just themselves. I do like the idea of a blue wave of hope, rising like a glorious sea wave amongst the masses that encourages us to be more respectful and caring for others at all costs. That is the song that I would like to hear, sung from the rooftops. Great poem Liz, I hope those who read it get a stirring feeling inside themselves too.
