Sketchbook Tea and Cake

To catch up a bit, I’m sharing a double spread of my sketchbook where I painted a cup and saucer with a teabag, and a cupcake.

Both of these are exercises from two different books – the cup and saucer from 50 Ways to Draw Your Beautiful, Ordinary Life (by the editors of Flow Magazine), and the cupcake from The Joy of Watercolour: 40 Happy Lessons for Painting the World Around You by Emma Block.

Both of these books have very different styles but I really like how both of these paintings complement each other! I find myself drawn towards either muted tones or very vibrant tones when I’m painting.

    Liz, your illustrations REALLY caught my eye when I was lazily browsing through WordPress Reader! I cannot draw, so I’m no expert, but these are beautiful and to my eye very accomplished. I love them. I hope you’re going to do more.
