Is there anything more time consuming than catching up on Twitter and Tumblr? Or pinning things on Pinterest? Pinterest is one of my new obsessions, introduced by my lovely sister. Basically, it is an online ‘pinboard’ community, where you can create boards of different things and repin, pin and collate to your hearts content. In a way, it is a step up from my Tumblr addiction, but at the same time is kind of a great way to keep track of wish-lists or things you’ve seen or read that spark your interest. It takes the pressure off your bookmarks folder, for a start. It is also a great way to follow your obsessions from one year to another – how do your aesthetics and wish lists change? Its also a great way to inspire yourself when you’re feeling low, and Tumblr also does this for me because there is always something wonderful being posted or something inspiring to think about.
In real life, I also have a big cork board with a white board attached, so theoretically I could be inspiring myself that way as opposed to constantly being on the internet. However, I’m still finding that I enjoy Tumblr and Pinterest far more, maybe because it takes up less space and doesn’t need me to do much more than click. I’m not sure what it will take for me to be more motivated, maybe I need to change my workspace around so that I’m more inspired by what I have around me. Or maybe I just desperately need a holiday – I’m off to Barcelona soon, so a change of scenery will do me good. I’m looking forward to getting away and seeing some architecture and art, having yummy food and soaking up the buzzing atmosphere of the place.
Anyway, if you want an invite to Pinterest, let me know – its such fun and could become a new addiction for you too. I don’t know whether that’s a good thing, but its definitely better than accumulating pages of random paper and too many bookmarks. I’m looking forward to using Pinterest as inspiration – particularly for creative inspiration, what with the craft and jewellery business being reworked and relaunched. One day, we might have our own workspace with a huge inspiration board for ideas and thoughts, but in the meantime, I think Pinterest and Tumblr will have to do…
