There has been lots to celebrate in the past week – World Book Night, International Women’s Day, Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras! Admittedly, the last four were for today, and I did eat some yummy lemon and sugar pancakes. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is about Dynamic Duos – the bffs, partners in crime, or powerful couples that I just can’t forget about. Thinking about it, there are loads, and probably not easy to whittle down to ten – but needs must!
1. Henry and Claire from The Time Traveler’s Wife – because you grow with them, you see their faults and strength and the fact that they believe in their love pulls them through.
2. Will and Lyra from His Dark Materials – in the end, obviously, its very sad, but its great to see how they begin to trust each other.
3. Jace and Clary from The Mortal Instruments – interestingly, like stumbling across Twilight, I stumbled upon this book when browsing in a bookshop! Anyway, this pairing is definitely epic, even though their path is definitely not smooth at all.
4. Paige and Lucas from Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld Series (specifically Dime Store Magic and Industrial Magic).
5. Sam and Frodo from LOTR – a model of true hobbit friendship!
6. Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist from The Millenium Trilogy – one of the best duos I’ve read about in recent years.
7. Matilda and Miss Honey from Matilda by Roald Dahl – what a wonderful friendship. The kind of friendship I wanted when I was a kid!
8. Richard Mayhew and Door from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. It was interesting to see how their relationship progressed and how their respect for each other grew, especially when Richard becomes a stronger person.
9. Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet – how could I not, since its my favourite novel and close to my heart? They are both incredibly feisty characters and they are eventually a formidable and equal couple.
10. Harry, Ron and Hermione – yes, like everyone has pointed out, its a trio, but you can’t put two together without the third, it doesn’t seem right, and the three of them are so important to each other.
There are so many more, like Romeo and Juliet, Holmes and Watson, Jo and Laurie (Little Women), Tristan Thorn and Yvaine (Stardust), Lorna Doone and John Ridd (Lorna Doone), Louis and Lestat (Interview with the Vampire), Jasper and Alice (my favourite characters in the Twilight series..)…so many more!

They’re brilliant! I mean, even though some parts of the books were a bit dense (with decription and explanation), I loved those two characters – they jumped off the page and seemed very much ‘alive’ 🙂
